The house smells a bit funky due to the chutney that's bubbling away. (hmmm... 'funky chuckney' - sounds like a winning brand... move over Levi roots.)
I had the urge to make some green tomato chutney due to the depressing fact that my beef tomatoes showed worrying signs of blight (in the greenhouse too!), so I cut them down & consoled my aching heart with the promise of a nice sweet & sour chutney, but they were too young & only fit for the bin.
So to satisfy my chutney desire, I have made yellow courgette & runner bean chutney - smells sharp & looks like mud!.
Oh yeah, i forgot to say, the courgettes have bitten the dust as well - 2 plants rotted off & collapsed. This, I think, is just spite on their behalf because i'm only growing a few plants after being buried in courgettes last year.
Back to 'Defender' next year - much more robust, also, note to self, don't grow yellow courgettes because most of them rot in the rain.
Optimism kicked in though; in the face of lots of things curling up their roots, I'm already formulating positive actions for next year - fruit, fruit, fruit & gherkins.
